How much does a wedding planner cost?

Given the many moving parts of a wedding, pinpointing an exact cost can be challenging. However, as a general guideline, industry estimates suggest that couples typically spend between 10% to 20% of their total wedding budget.

Keep in mind that this range is an estimate for a streamlined wedding and can vary widely depending on the scope and scale of services required. For a more accurate understanding of potential costs, it’s best to review your overall wedding budget and consult with your planner to assess the specific expenses involved.

Is a wedding coordinator or planner needed if the venue offers someone?

Absolutely! A professional wedding planner and a venue coordinator serve different roles and bring distinct expertise to the table. While there may be some overlap, venue coordinators focus specifically on managing the property and its facilities. Their responsibilities typically include overseeing on-site staff, coordinating in-house services, and ensuring that the venue’s contractual obligations are met. In contrast, a wedding planner offers a broader scope of services, from crafting your vision to coordinating every detail of your wedding, ensuring a seamless and personalized experience.

What should a client look for while hiring a wedding planner?

Should I hire planner first or book the venue first?

Selecting a wedding planner early on is ideal, especially if you need assistance with location scouting, narrowing down options, managing your budget, and negotiating deals. 

While you can book the venue on your own, be sure to review the terms and conditions and understand what you are getting and what not from the perspective of planning a wedding. 

What do you wish more people knew about wedding planners?

Wedding planners are a crucial element of your wedding planning process. We act as the cohesive force, coordinating all your vendors, managing every detail, and serving as the liaison between everyone involved—vendors, venues, your family, and you. Our goal is to ensure that your day unfolds perfectly, with your best interests at heart.

Our fees should not be a concern; they are an investment in peace of mind. On average, we dedicate over 500 hours to a single wedding—far more than any other vendor. Think of us as your wedding insurance; planning without a dedicated planner is simply not an option.

‘Day-of’ planners or coordinators who come in at the last minute cannot fully grasp the intricate details or your specific preferences. We believe that someone cannot simply show up on your wedding day and fully understand all the intricate details or your specific preferences, let alone execute the event seamlessly. The trust and understanding necessary for an stress-free wedding day come from working through the planning process together. Without that shared journey, it’s difficult to ensure the level of comfort and confidence you deserve on your special day.

Where are you based and where all do you plan weddings?

We are headquartered in Delhi, with additional workspaces in Jaipur and Goa. Our expertise spans across India, with major focus areas in Goa, Rajasthan, and Kerala. We have also orchestrated weddings in diverse and enchanting locations such as Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Corbett, and Vadodara.

How many weddings do you do per year?

Memorable Indian Weddings is not a high volume company. We intentionally accept a limited number of weddings each year to ensure that every couple receives the personalized attention they deserve. Annually, we undertake around 8 to 12 projects, ranging from intimate gatherings of under 20 guests to larger celebrations of 50 to 200 or more.

We also select projects based on their alignment with our values, chemistry, and budget, ensuring a perfect match for both parties.

Who are your couples?

Many of our couples are based abroad and choose to celebrate their nuptials in India, resulting in exquisite multicultural weddings that we take great pride in curating. Our modern yet traditionally-minded couples often prioritize timeless elegance over fleeting trends, focusing on crafting moments and memories that will be cherished for generations to come.

Do you charge any fee for the initial consultation?

We provide our initial consultation and a few follow-up calls free of charge, offering an opportunity to get acquainted and assess how well we connect. However, if you’d like us to reach out to hotels for availability and quotes, this service will be available after the contract is signed and we’re officially on board.

What is the retainer to reserve the dates?

Yes. Once you are ready to move forward with us, you will need to sign a contract and send a non-refundable booking deposit of 25% in order to secure your date. The remaining balance will be split into two to three payments, with all payments due no later than two weeks before the wedding.

I want to book with you, but you’ve never planned a wedding at my chosen venue. Will this be a problem?

Choosing a wedding planner should primarily be based on whether they’re the right fit for you and your vision, rather than their experience with a specific venue. While we may not have worked at your chosen location before, our versatility, resourcefulness, and creativity enable us to adapt to any setting and make it work beautifully. Our priority is ensuring that your venue becomes the perfect backdrop for your dream wedding.

Will you work with vendors we select, or only those you recommend?

We have a trusted team of preferred vendors who consistently align with our standards and our clients’ sensibilities. At the same time, we are more than happy to explore any vendors you have in mind. Our goal is to collaborate closely with our clients rather than impose any specific vendors.

Who will do the wedding design and production?

We actively develop or create the aesthetic design and vision for the weddings we plan. We work with flowers, linens, and different materials to design products, props, and installations – but more than that – before any of those details come into play, we work with our clients to develop a vision. We are responsible for developing or overseeing the development of all creative content and the entire creative process itself. In addition, not all wedding planners are as design-focused as we are, and that attracts a certain client.

Do you work with commissions?

We don’t operate on referral commissions. Our vendor recommendations are based solely on their expertise, compatibility with your style, and shared values. We provide a curated list of suppliers tailored specifically to your needs, ensuring they align with the vision you have for your wedding. When we recommend someone, it’s because we genuinely believe they are the best choice for you, not because of any financial incentive.
